Our farm

From the field to your port

Seven stages, and one company accountable for all of them.

The land it all comes from

Since 1995 we have farmed roughly 300 acres at kilometre 62 on the Alexandria Desert Road. That is where the crops grow, and where the animal development side of the business runs alongside them.

Nillage is the newer half of it. The farming is long established; the export operation is being built on top of it now, deliberately and in that order. So what follows describes how we work rather than counting what we have shipped — and what we bring to a first container is decades of knowing this ground: which varieties travel, which fields perform, and when a crop is genuinely ready.

  1. 01

    Growing

Planting is planned around the destination as much as the season. Variety, field and timing are chosen for how the crop needs to travel and what the receiving market expects. Through the cycle the crop is monitored — irrigation, condition, maturity — so harvest becomes a decision rather than a date on a calendar.

  2. 02

    Harvesting

Produce is picked at the maturity its journey requires. A shipment with weeks of sailing ahead of it is not harvested like one moving in days. Harvest is coordinated so that what leaves the field reaches the packhouse quickly, and in the condition it left in.

  3. 03

    Sorting & grading

Everything is sorted before it is packed. Product is separated by size, colour and condition, and anything below grade is taken out here rather than discovered later. Uniformity is the whole point: a buyer opening the tenth carton should see what they saw in the first.

  4. 04

    Packing

Packing is matched to the product and to the market — format, count, labelling and the presentation the receiving buyer works with. Where the product calls for it, cooling begins at this stage, and the packhouse is run with the hygiene and handling discipline that fresh produce demands.

  5. 05

    Quality check

Before anything is sealed it is checked again: appearance, condition, grading accuracy, pack integrity, and temperature where that applies. This is a deliberate stop in the process and it carries authority. Product that does not pass does not travel.

  6. 06

    Export preparation

Export documentation, labelling, loading plans and shipment paperwork are prepared alongside the physical goods rather than chased afterwards. Loading is planned so the container is filled in a way that protects the product through transit.

  7. 07

    Shipping

We coordinate container booking and shipping from Egypt to the destination, and keep the shipment followed and the buyer informed. Where temperature control forms part of the specification, it is managed as part of the shipment rather than left to chance.
